John Newton and
Company is a leading distributor of damp proof membranes and the oldest
established company in this field of the building industry. The earliest
record of John Newton & Company is in 1848 when the Company traded
in plasterer's hair from the local tanneries in Bermondsey. In those
days animal hair was used as a bonding agent for plastering ceilings.
The Company expanded into making hair felt as an anti-vibration underlay
for railway sleeper pads, and in the 1930s the then chairman bought
the patent rights to manufacture "Newtonite" in the UK. This was the
first cavity drainage membrane to be sold in this country and has
led to the new generation of high density polypropylene membranes
we supply today. The growth that we have experienced over the past
year continues to be backed up by high quality products, literature
and specification advice to our customers at home and overseas.
There are other membranes
on the market without BBA approval so it is always advisable to specify "Newton"
membranes.
