Newton Basedrain - Drainage Channel
What
is it?
NEWTON
BASEDRAIN is a drainage conduit that sits in the
floor next to the wall. It is designed to intercept water
coming in under pressure at the wall floor junction and drain
it away using a pump solution (see the NEWTON
TITAN Sump Pump) or to natural drainage.

Why
use Newton Basedrain?
- Newton Basedrain
collects water from the wall Cavity Membrane (see NEWTON
SYSTEM 500) and disperses it more efficiently without
fear of silting or clogging.
- It also allows cavity
Drain Membrane to be used in isolation on the wall causing concern
without necessarily having to take the membrane over all the walls
and the floor*.
- It can be used in situations
where it is difficult or impossible to take a Newton
Flooring Membrane over the floor.*
NEWTON
SYSTEM 500 incorporates Newton Basedrain:

Application
of NEWTON BASEDRAIN with NEWTON 500 Flooring Membranes:
Fig
1. and Fig. 2. demonstrate
NEWTON BASEDRAIN used
in conjunction with the NEWTON SYSTEM 500 family of membranes.

Using
NEWTON BASEDRAIN with no Flooring Membrane:
In
some situations, it is not possible to have a Newton damp-proof membrane
laid to the floor, e.g. where head room is restricted or door and
door-frame alterations hamper.
With
NEWTON BASEDRAIN you can use NEWTON 500 membranes without
necessarily having to go over the floor with membrane.*

Application
Notes:
- NEWTON BASEDRAIN should be inserted on a shallow bed
of 20mm stone, with stone in-fill to the side of the Basedrain to
prevent capillary action to the slab.
- In the example (Fig.2.), NEWTON BASEDRAIN is inserted in the slab and is made
good with 50mm of screed
- In the example (Fig.2.), the screed
repair and the slab are coated with an impermeable epoxy coating
to seal the floor from residual damp and vapour.
- NEWTON BASEDRAIN
should be drained to either a natural drainage system or a pumped
system such as the NEWTON TITAN sump/pump.
